1. Election incident in Lanao Del Sur

A farmer was killed when a son of a mayoralty candidate shot the victim while on his way to polling place in Lanao Del Sur.

The fatality was identified as Mamak Sangco, 63 years old, farmer and resides in Barangay Parao and the suspect identified as Kobaib Gauraki, son of Mayoralty candidate Kimal Gauraki of Kapai, Lanao Del Sur.

Reports showed that the incident happened at about 8:00 AM on Monday in Barangay Parao, Kapai, Lanao Del Sur.

Investigation revealed that the suspect shot the victim several times on the various parts of his body using M16 rifle as evidence of fired cartridge cases found in the crime area.

Investigators believed that the motive of the incident has something to do with politics.

COP, Kapai MPS, Lanao Del Sur Police Provincial Office (LDS PPO) is now conducting follow-up investigation and coordinating with the family of the victim for possible filing of charges against the suspect. (Rose Anne Valledo)


2. Unidentified person got involved in gunfire exchanged

A person died and other wounded in an armed confrontation between supporters of current and former Mayors in Lanao Del Sur.

The victims were not yet identified while the supporters were come from the current Mayor Alimatar Guroalim and Former Mayor Mangawan Balindong.

Reports showed that the incident happened at about 11:45 AM on Monday in the area of Tugaya Elemtary School in Barangay Pandiaranao, Tugaya, Lanao Del Sur.

Investigation revealed that the armed supporters of the said Mayors engaged in an exchange of gunfire when the victims were casting their votes. (Rose Anne Valledo)


3. SB member’s vehicle strafed

Vehicle owned by a current Sangguniang Bayan member of Conception, Iloilo was strafed by unidentified armed men.

The Izusu Dimax pick-up vehicle was owned by Sandy Boy Salcedo, SB member driven by Ivan Villaruel.

Reports showed that the incident happened at about 12:15 AM on Monday in OƱate Street, Barangay Poblacion, Conception, Iloilo.

Investigation revealed that while passing in front of the house if Vice-Mayoralty Candidate Ariel Manipula known to be the Liberal Party headquarters when strafed by unidentified armed men who were inside the compound.

No victim/s identified however the vehicle sustained damages on its bumper, rear body and reserved tire.

Investigators recovered one fired cartridge case for 5.56mm and one deformed slug believed to be from cal.45 pistol from the crime area.

Authorities are now conducting follow-up investigation to the incident. (Rose Anne Valledo)


4. 5 killed in an ambush in Compostela Valley

Five persons, including army and election poll watchers were killed while off to submit the election materials in Compostela Valley.

The fatalities were identified as Mercedita Negro, poll watcher together with two Army soldiers and two members of Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) while other twelve (12) were wounded identified as Lita Tablingon and Nila Restauro, poll watchers, Darwin Obillo, civilian hitchhiker and nine (9) Army personnel.

Taken to Maragusan District Hospital were the wounded victims.

Initial reports showed that the incident happened at about 9:00 AM on Monday in Sitio Saranga, Barangay Mahayahay, Maragusan, Compostela Valley.

Elements of 66th Infantry Battalion Philippine Army (IB PA) headed by 2nd Lieutenant Dexter Nabora and 2nd Lieutenant Florent Casilia were ambushed by undetermined number of suspects allegedly members of New People’s Army (NPA).

However, Ka Simon Santiago, Political Director of NPA Southern Mindanao Command assured that their group would not perform such unpleasant act while election process is still ongoing.

The Board of Election Inspectors (BEIs) from Mahayahay Elementary School (Barangay Mahayahay) and Paloc Elementary School (Barangay Paloc), both in Maragusan, Compostela Valley were escorted by the said military members while onboard a dump truck on their way to Maragusan Municipal Canvassing Center when they were attacked.

Election Paraphernalia are now in the Maragusan Municipal Hall. 66th IB and Army Scout Rangers are conducting, clearing and pursuit operations. (Marie Gaie Nolledo, Kleir Pineda, Camille Marie Ponce and Rose Anne Valledo)
