2. PDEA Advisory

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) gives emphasis to all travelers about the Travel Warning/Advisory for safety measure.

To prevent illegal drugs smuggling or trafficking PDEA Director General/Senior Undersecretary Dionisio R. Santiago once more point out the warning issued about the execution of a Japanese national in China last April 6, 2010 as reported by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

Unknown Japanese national was reported caught transporting 2.5 kilos of narcotics from China to Japan in 2006.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo chose the PDEA as the Chairman of the multi-agency Task Force Drug Couriers (TFDC) whiles the DFA as the CO-Chairman.

TFDC was created under the Administrative Order No. 279.

PDEA Chief emphasized that death penalty will be charge to those Filipino caught transporting illegal drugs though having it was none of their knowledge.

The number of Filipinos who were intentionally or unintentionally persuaded by the West African Drug Syndicates (WADS) members to became a drug messenger were rising.

PDEA was constantly issuing the Travel Advisories since 2008 and informing all Filipino travelers not to accept from strangers to carry their baggage.

PDEA Chief also advised that their bags be personally checked before accepted it.

PDEA has a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Philippines Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to inform OFWs through the addition of dangerous drugs consciousness lectures in the Pre-Departure and Pre-Employment Orientation Seminars on the issue of global drug groups working in Asia, the Middle East and South America recruit West Africans to employ unsuspicious travelers and became a drug messenger or “mules”.

Travelers who would still pursue on being drug couriers despite the seminars and lectures that PDEA set to warn them would not be on their concerns any more. (Rose Anne Valledo)
