1. Young boy burned alive

A boy was killed and his mother accidentally gave birth due to tension when their house was engulfed by fire in Baguio City.

The fatality was indentified as Wencesiao Del Mundo Jr, two years old, son of Mrs. Jenny Del Mundo, occupied the bank house #15. His mother was accidentally gave birth due to tension and was rushed to the Pines City Doctor Hospital and Brandon Balajar of Zambales, occupied the bank house # 14.

Belated reports reaching Camp Crame that the fire started at around 5:20 PM last Saturday in Purok Makati, Brgy Sto Niño Slaughter Compound, Baguio City.

Initial investigation revealed that the young boy was trapped and burned alive inside the room.
Two storey bank house made of pinewood owned by the City Government of Baguio was destroyed and spread out all the way through the bank houses #14, 15 and 16.

At about 5:55 PM the fire was contained. The body of the young boy was brought to Baguio Memorial Chapel.

The cost of the fire damage was still undetermined.

The Arson Investigation from Baguio City Fire Department has yet to establish the cause of the fire. (Rose Anne Valledo)

2. PNP Press Corps condemn DOJ


Members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Press Corps condemn the decision of dismissing the murder charges against Zaldy and Akmad Ampatuan by the Department of Justice (DOJ).

DOJ ordered last Saturday to drop the murder charges against the suspended Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Gov. Zaldy Ampatuan and Mamapasano town Mayor Akmad Ampatuan for the massacre in Maguindanao last year November 23, 2009.

In the testimonial signed by Mr. Noel S. Alamar, President of PNP Press Corps, he said that the consecutive dismissals of the Maguindanao Massacre cases are danger signs that could more worsen unstable situation in the security landscape.

After Quezon City Regional Trial Court (RTC) dismissed the rebellion case and now murder charges.

Former DOJ Sec. Agnes Devanadera filed the cases against Zaldy and Akmad Ampatuan but her descendant Sec. Alberto Agra, who serves as concurrent Solicitor General, has reversed itself in the resolution of the controversial cases which has been criticize by the international community of nations for its record number of 57 people, including the 31 journalist, murdered.

PNP Press Corps said that, “Political analysts have earlier warned of a Palace plot to free the Ampatuans from the heinous crimes by way of trade off for the role of the clan in the 2004 and 2007 elections. These plots appear to have been effectively executed at the expense of truth and justice”.

Sec. Agra said that a motion for reconsideration or appeal may still be obtained. “The DOJ resolution may be calculated further fan the fires of dissent and trouble in the streets,” PNP Press Corps said.

In the statement of the PNP Press Corps, stated that the recent events matching with the automated elections have raised warning sign on a threatening situations and plans.

PNP Press Corps added, “With the media making noise and militant howl of protest actions, Malacañang seems hell bent in fomenting chaos, if not rebellion, to justify plans to sabotage the elections and perpetuate itself in power”.

The charges against the Ampatuan clan remained.

The PNP Press Corps enjoined “all freedom loving Filipinos to remain vigilant to protect the nation’s cherished freedom and democracy.” (Rose Anne Valledo)
